About the Book
Ring Around the City looks at Wellington’s suburban growth from 1900 to 1930 taking Kilbirnie and Kelburn as case studies and contrasting the city council’s tramway system and the privately run Kelburn cable car. It contains many rarely seen photos (both black & white and colour), maps and plans of early Wellington to illustrate the story.

About the Author

Adrian Humphris is operations co-ordinator at Wellington City Archives and has completed a Master of Science (Geography) on the relationship between public transport and suburban growth in early Wellington. A born-and-bred Wellingtonian, he lives in Karori with wife Inka and is kept busy with their two young sons, Nikolas and Kilian.

Geoff Mew is a life member of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and has published articles in the Trust magazines and edited the popular pamphlets Historic Wellington and Historic Hutt Valley. Geoff’s previous career as a soil scientist resulted in over 30 publications. He has travelled extensively and is a keen amateur photographer.
