About the Book
A book which will get people talking, arguing, laughing,
theorising an innovative and multi-layered book that
combines intellectual analysis, personal reflection and
evocative art in the study of the everyday lives of
middle-class New Zealanders.

Read an article from the book: Lotto is the name of our game.

About the Author

Peter Howland is a former Truth journalist turned
academic, who strives to make anthropology and
anthropological analysis readily accessible to a
general audience. He also takes the opportunity
to cock a snook at the more pretentious aspects
of academia.

Lucinda Birch's hand-tinted photographs engage
the reader and transcend the topics covered in the
essays, challenging the reader to look beyond the
commonplace to see the exoticness and wonder
in the minutiae of their everyday lives.
