John Davidson retells myths and historical events (sometimes to highlight a modern concern or controversy), reinvents mythical or historical individuals, and now and then enjoys shameless forays into fantasy.

Comments about John’s last book, Petone Beach & other poems (2018):

“John Davidson’s sixth collection is anchored in the past, the present and wthe landscape. … Impressionistic, imagistic and philosophical immersions flourish wherever Davidson transports us. Tightly framed, sharply musical, the poems often feel akin to paintings, particularly in their ability to have greatest impact after careful study and reflection. Beautiful.” — Siobhan Harvey, NZ Herald

“His poems are vibrant, smart and impeccable … Davidson knows how to pen words that are juicy, insistent and meaningful.” — Hamesh Wyatt, Otago Daily Times
