Description

…I did not turn at the piece of driftwood; shaped like a seal, and stare at the endless beach.

I did not hear the crash of waves or gaze at the beauty and hunger of the sea and land in harmony, the constant movement, the deep love of one for the other, and maybe, just maybe I did not know that love and sadness can live side by side. And yet I did.

from “Walking with the shadow man”

About the author

Born in Ōamaru in 1951, Greg has spent most of his life in Auckland apart from two years with his young family in the Solomon Islands. His background is in finance and numbers, but he looks elsewhere for creativity and happiness — in words, books and poetry; in reading and writing.

Greg’s visits to the places where the NZ Division saw action in World War I inspired some of his poems and a novel, Good Sons, which follows three lads from Ōamaru as they are engulfed by the war. He is working on a sequel.

Greg and Carolyn live in Devonport and divide their time between there and the Bay of Plenty. They enjoy time with their children and grandchildren, hanging out with friends on the croquet lawn, riding bikes, and being part of the Devonport community.
