Description
Unit 6, 3 Quake Road is a collection of poetry built around the earthquakes that rewrote Christchurch in the summer of 2011. Two weeks before the 6.3 quake on 22 February, Gary climbed Mt Herbert, near where the quake was centred. Up there he stared at the cattle and the four-leggeds stared back, wondering why two-leggeds climbed only to disappear so quickly from the area. Shortly afterwards they may have remarked, so that’s why, even if they were also rattled by the most damaging of the many Canterbury quakes in this period. ‘Quake Road, Christchurch’ is a black comic poem in long narrative form. The other poetry reflects Gary’s life as a writer and artist in Melbourne and Christchurch. This is his thirty-first publication.
